I just bought a new Silverado, actually a 07 Classic. It's a WT with no power accessories and a AM/FM radio. I want to install my Pioneer, but am told I need a $120 PAC adapter to do it correctly. The guy at Car Toys said I can install it with a regular wiring harness, but some things like will happen like the oil change light not being able to be reset and scanning may not work correctly. Is there something else I can do, or should I break down and buy the adapter?

Thanks,
Skinny

I dont know about the 07 Classic's but I know on my 03 GMC Sierra, all I needed was the regular wiring harness. I am still able to reset the oil change thing and a scanner works just fine on the truck. Is the interiors different now on the 07 Classics, like similar to the newest body style interiors or did they keep the Classic interiors like the 06 and older style?

mine is the same as the 03. I went with the basic harness and as far as I can tell, I only lost the chimes...no big deal. I think the guy was just trying to sell me the adapter, which does look pretty cool. I didn't inspect it very well or research it, but it had rca's on it. maybe amp outputs for an included line converter? not sure why if all aftermarket heads have built ins. don't think they could be universal inputs.

yeah, the only thing I lost was the chimes tellin me the door is ajar or that my seatbelt isnt on. I dont see a need for that adapter. The only thing I can think of is that if the truck has the BOSE system that you need the adapter for the sytem to work correctly.

They sold me one of those for my 03 s-10 and I have the chimes and all that still with that but the thing made it to where my stereo doesnt come on when you turn the key back to acc. It doesnt stay on after you shut off the ignition either which I liked having.

Oh and the Bose system uses RCAs. I guess if you use regular speaker wire you just cut the ends off. I used all RCAs off the deck to my amp so I just left them on.
