Hello, some of yall might remember back about 5 years ago or so I used to own a 97 GMC Sierra (Vortec V6, 4.3?) I had some fun with it, yanked off all the trim, always kept it real nice looking. Since then I have been driving a Carbureted 350 86 Camaro, and got more into the engine (installing a new camshaft, valvetrain, ripping out the computer and installing an intake manifold & carburetor and so on)
So anyway, I really have a yearning for another fullsized 1990's single cab GM truck again, but this time I'd like a 350ci engine. I'd like to put in an aggressive camshaft (but still streetable) and I'm not sure what year would be best for this Would a pre-vortec be easier to work with? Or would a Vortec respond just as well to an aggressive cam? What years were 350ci engines offered?
After something like a cam install, does the computer take over and "learn" the cam, even if it's a fairly aggressive cam? Or would tuning be needed? I don't know much about car computers, I'm used to a carbureted engine.
What year would be best for my intentions? I would rather not spend much more than 6-7k on the truck (1988-1998), is this reasonable? (I'm not going for a show truck here, the body or interior does not need to be real nice, infact I would rather they be a little on the warn side)
Thanks :-)
