Yea, 17x8 with proper backspace and spindles means you need to cut part of the lower control arm lip to avoid rubbing. The correct backspace would be 17x8 with 5" backspace.
In front run a 17x7 with 4.5" or 17x7.5 with 4.75".. you could get away with a little less backspace on the 17x7 or 7.5 if you use a tire that isn't as wide. In back you could also get away with less backspace than 5" on a 17x8, but again it depends how aggressive you get with tires. I wouldn't run less than 4.5" and to keep room for a big tire a 4.75" or 5" backspace would be ideal.

Don't know what I was thinking, they actually rub the relocated lower shock mount at full lock. Been thinking about getting a thinner nut and shaving off the end of the bolt a bit. Should probably just get tubular lower control arms. Thanks for the info. I thought the 17x8's had 5" of backspacing, but couldn't remember for sure.
She's coming along. Just need some new paint and some interior work.
